Three weeks ago I heard about Stitch Fix for the first time. I was at work and the Superintendent was telling us how his daughter loved it. My first reaction was that it was an incredible idea. I grew up in the country, went to a country school that was in a country county in the middle of BFE (For those not in the Mid-West, BFE stands for Butt F***k Egypt-which means the middle of nothing, nowhere; how BFE became an expression is totally beyond me!) So super long and boring story, I have no idea what fashion is, I like looking at the looks from fashion week, but have no idea how to interpret that into my own life on myself.
I tried looking up YouTube videos and blog post about it, but didn't find much useful information as it seemed that these ladies that I found really loved shopping and all that. I finally went to the website and signed up. That process was easy, but a little overwhelming for someone with my ignorance to clothing. It ask a lot about what size blouse and dress you wear, and I have no idea. I don't think I have ever bought a "blouse" I have t-shirts and nice tops. I wear a dress once every couple years and feel like a little girl playing dress-up. There is a little place to leave a note for your stylist and I let her know I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
So Thursday I received my package. Now, just coming home from work to find a surprise box full of clothes just for me, that alone kinda made my day. I know, what a first world privilege it was, have such an abundance to pay someone to surprise myself with clothes. The box was super cute. There was a printed note thanking me for signing up, that there were some pieces to update my winter wardrobe (I mentioned that I loved fall and wanted some fall like clothing) along with "Outfit guides" that had pictures of the pieces I received along with thing that are apparently "staples" in most closets on how to prepare them. As a professional cook, I looked at it as a suitable sides to go with the main course, but as for me the only thing I had was the pair of jeans. There was an invoice for everything that was in the box, all labeled neat with pricing, along with my credit and a 25% discount if you purchase everything. There was a large bag that already had a shipping label on it for any returns which I was super pleased with.
The item I liked most was a pair of DVS Bria wedge booties. As an ethical plant based person I requested not to have any leather or wool (easy to do when you fill out your profile) and these booties looked so much like suede but were made of cotton! I debated on requesting a different size because my wide little feet wouldn't go in, but didn't as it was my first box and was a little overwhelmed on how this all works. They came in a little duster bag that was totally my favorite thing! It was just a super cute burlap sack with the stitch fix blue design. I know, I'm such a nerd.
I also received the 41Hawthorn Mella Striped Duster Cardigan which was super cute and great quality, and fit me perfect except these adorable fake leather elbow pads that came down way too low.
Papermoon's Reece Mixed Material Top was my least favorite thing just because it was yellow, and while I hold no bad feelings toward Yellow, I do have olive undertones in my skin and look like I have the flu when I wear it, I guess my stylist didn't read that part. Other than that it was cute.
Kut From the Kloth Simmons Bootcut Jeans were so comfortable! I went back and forth of keeping them or not. Again, I signed up fro stitch fix to step out of my comfort zone of jeans and a shirt, and while they were super comfortable, they weren't any more comfortable or stylish than my regular jeans from the awful box store I get mine from, and for $85 dollars I didn't feel like I should have to hem them haha.
Kaileigh Kylee Crochet Pocket Knit Top was my least favorite thing when I opened the box as I felt it looked like an old school pajama top, but it was the only thing I ended up keeping. I just adore the way it hangs down in front, its not baggy, yet its not tight. Seems like some wonderful fluke, but its wonderful, and have worn it out twice in the last four days and have gotten compliments on this simple shirt. My only complaint is that after deciding to keep it I read that it was hand wash only. Bummer on my part, working full time with two kids, a husband, a puppy, and a fish. Who has time for that? I am sure many, just not me. My bad on not checking the care label.
So with my $20 styling fee credit and 25% off for ordering all it came to $211, but I only kept one shirt that was $36 so all in all it was like $40.
There were a couple things I was wasn't pleased about, the not reading the part where I can't really wear yellow, or that I have wide feet, or that I'm trying to get away from jeans. But I feel like overall it was really nice, and just figuring out sizes will be the trick to making this successful. I signed up for another box for a couple more weeks, for my birthday. I updated my profile and was sure to make sure the specifics were laid out, so hoping I can keep all of the next one!
